GRATZ, Pa. (June 12, 2006) — In a move that will strengthen the company’s position in the replacement products market and expand its presence in the Midwest, MI Windows and Doors, Inc., has entered an agreement to acquire a 210,000 square foot CertainTeed window fabrication facility in Lebanon, Ind.
With the proposed acquisition, Pennsylvania-based MI Windows and Doors will be granted exclusive rights to fabricate CertainTeed vinyl window and patio door products for many of the primary markets throughout the Midwest. In addition to producing CertainTeed windows, the plant will be fabricating MI’s line of XACT replacement windows and patio doors. According to Matt DeSoto, MI’s executive vice president of the eastern division, “We look forward to creating new opportunities for our customers, team members, and supply partners with this purchase.”
“We’re seeing a lot of opportunity in the Midwest for replacement products and that makes this acquisition a key part of our growth strategy,” said DeSoto. “We also feel that this will be the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship between two great companies. CertainTeed has a strong reputation within our industry and they have a brand that is recognized by consumers throughout the supply chain.”
MI’s Midwest manufacturing presence also includes an existing facility in Brazil, Indiana, which will transition its focus to the new construction segment of the industry. This transition, as well as the CertainTeed acquisition, gives MI a stronger presence in new construction and replacement categories throughout the Midwest.
“With rising gas prices, more Americans—especially those in the Midwest—are searching for home improvement options that allow them to conserve energy and reduce heating and cooling costs. Because of that, replacement products are selling at an increasingly higher pace,” said Stan Sullivan, executive vice president of replacement products for MI.
“This new facility is a direct response to that shift; we see this as the beginning of an extended period of growth for MI’s replacement products division.” Headquartered in Valley Forge, Pa., CertainTeed is a leading North American manufacturer of building products, including roofing, siding, windows, insulation, fence, railing, deck, foundations and pipe.
“Our Lebanon employees’ pursuit of excellence is what has made this transaction possible today,” said CertainTeed vice president and general manager, Thierry Dennis. “MI’s well established network of customers throughout the region will enhance the visibility of the CertainTeed brand and product line.”
